Oh my goodness, you guys!!! What a crazy year it’s been! With all of the Sweet Trilogy business, my novella has sort of been brushed aside. Here’s the deal. During the summer we weren’t certain if the final two books in the Sweet Trilogy would be picked up. When HarperTeen made an offer, everything happened really fast. At the same time they made an offer for books 2 & 3, they told me about a new line they were starting called HarperImpulse – a line of short stories and novellas that would be available at discounted prices in ebook form. They asked if I’d be willing to contribute and I grinned and blubbered “YES” with lots of overwhelmed, goofy excitement. I was asked to write a YA contemporary/realistic fiction piece separate from the Sweet Trilogy. Since I didn’t have much time to start from scratch, and edits for Sweet Peril were coming right around the corner, followed closely by the due date for book 3, I decided to use a short story I’d written in college. Back then it was titled Toys because the main character, Ryan, gets toyed with by the older girl, Brooke, who gets toyed with by the older guys. But since that title sounded too picture-bookish, we decided on the title Flirting with Maybe. I took the short story I’d written in college and lengthened it. I had a blast being back with Ryan and Brooke. The story is very different from what you’re used to with me, as far as the writing style. It’s 3rd person point of view, and it’s from Ryan’s viewpoint. Of course there’s romance and longing and all that other mushy stuff you’ve come to expect from me, so I hope you’ll check it out and enjoy it! You should also know that the first chapter of Sweet Peril will be available at the end of the novella – BONUS! The cover is sweet, cute, and adorable…basically everything that Ryan is. I’m very pleased with it. I only wish Ryan was wearing his signature baseball cap. Flirting with Maybe, coming March 5th, 2013 for $1.99 He was fifteen and she was seventeen. When sophomore Ryan “The Kid” McPhearson makes the Varsity baseball team, he finds himself submersed in the life of upperclassmen and falling in love with senior Brooke Bennet. To Ryan she’s his dream girl, perfect. Maybe to the outside world a two-year age difference doesn’t matter, but this is high school. Everything matters. Ryan soon realizes Brooke’s life is not so perfect. He becomes her closest friend, her safe place to fall when she needs to escape. Ryan seems to be benched in the friend zone with no chance to bat. Time is both a curse and a blessing. It ushers Brooke away to college, and Ryan into the arms of his first girlfriend. It alters Ryan from a kid to a high school graduate, ready to venture to college himself. But when Ryan sees Brooke again he realizes there are some things even time can’t touch. Though much has changed, one question still remains. Will the things that mattered in high school continue to stand between them? Fun, fun, fun! You can add it on Goodreads here.
And now, as promised…a Sweet Peril teaser. Come on April 30th! * * * (This is the first time Anna and Kai see each other after the New Year’s summit in NYC.) The look in his eyes dared me to pull away again. I sunk my fingers into the hair at the nape of his neck. “I’m trying to talk to you,” I said. “Yes, I know. But I’d rather not.” In one step he had me against the table, the back of my thighs hitting the edge as he pressed his body flush against mine. A whimpering gasp sounded from my lips. I tried not to stutter, grasping his hair tighter. “I need you to be serious.” His blue eyes scorched me. “Oh, I’ve never been more serious.” * * * Don’t you fret. I will post more teasers between now and release date. Hugs to you! And remember…be nice this holiday season. Even to the grumpsters with ugly, gray auras. Spread the love.
