Writing a Query Letter

If you’re like me, you’d rather write a 90,000-word manuscript than to write a 300-word query letter or a five-page synopsis. Trying to condense your incredibly detailed story into a handful of words is difficult and can be stressful. In my critique services, I offer a query letter critique in which I focus on the following things to help your letter be as effective as possible.

AUTHOR NOTE

I read many, many versions of the Cupid/Eros mythology, namely The Golden Ass: Being the Metamorphoses of Lucius Apuleius. Some of them were vastly different, with contradicting details. And many of the versions left me wanting, questioning, confused about a character’s motives. I did what all authors have to do when they choose to write a retelling; I went with the details that felt right for my particular version of the tale, borrowing a little from here, a lot from there, and making up some things of my own. I hope you will forgive any wavering from your preferred account of the story.

It’s always a special feeling when you complete a series, and this one is especially lovely because it’s my first adult series, allowing me to let loose creatively and stretch my wings in a way I’d never done before. I truly hope you’ll check it out and enjoy!

Guys!! Only one more month until UNDONE releases! I am so excited for you to have the complete trilogy. I can’t tell you what an experience it’s been to stretch my wings on this one. It definitely pushed me to places I’d never been as a writer. It’s my first adult trilogy, so it’s sexier than anything I’d published before, and I was especially able to push the envelope in book three. It’s a romance, of course. It’s apocalyptic, so kind of scary. And it’s light science fiction, which was amazingly fun to explore.

This is an exciting day for me! I’ve just finished my first adult trilogy, and they’ve been given a complete makeover! If you’re not familiar with this series yet, it’s got that apocalyptic feeling of The Walking Dead, with Sci-fi elements of Roswell, and hot, slow burning romances the whole way through. Books 1 and 2 (UNKNOWN and UNREST) are out now, and book 3, UNDONE, releases December 5th!
